Desktop Properties of Windows XP

With the desktop properties you can change the look of Windows XP.
1. Right click on desktop and select properties.

2. In the themes tab you can see there are different theme types available, for example if you choose windows classic, you can see the simple, old look of windows xp.

3. Now click on the desktop tab, here you can select a different wallpaper as a desktop background, for example I chose Autumn as desktop wallpaper and click on apply button to take effect. If you want to put a different picture, just click on browse button, go to the folder where your favorite picture is, select it and click open and finally click apply button to actually change the desktop wallpaper.

4. If you picture is too large or small not to enough to fit as whole you can select Center, Tile or Stretch position to look the wallpaper proper.

5. In the customize desktop, you can select desktop icons that has to be placed on desktop.

6. You can also change the default icons of desktop icons by clicking on change icon button and selecting the icon you like. Restoring the default icon of the changed one is also easy, just click on restore default, that’s it. The desktop cleanup wizard will try to remove unwanted icons on your desktop every 60 days by default. The web option is to set up a web page on your desktop and its for advanced XP user.

7. In the screen saver tab, you can set the screen saver. You can also set after how many minutes the screen saver will auto start. To come out from the screen saver mode, just move your mouse or press any key. You will be prompted for the windows password (if you have set ) if you choose ‘on resume password protect’ option. You can check the other settings on screen saver and can see the preview on how current screen saver will look like. The power is for advanced user, and you can find it under Windows XP Advanced category.

8. You can set different look for your windows xp under appearance tab. This is really easy and you can check everything yourself and on clicking apply button you can check the result. If anything goes wrong, or you cant set the theme as it was before, just go to themes tab (the very first tab in desktop properties) and select windows xp theme.

9. Now in the settings tab, you can set your monitor screen resolution. Please be careful with this as choosing wrong resolution can create a problem. Leaving color quality to 32 bit will give you better resolution. The advance tab is for advanced user only and I advice you not to play with it. Troubleshoot button will help you if you are facing some problem with you screen resolution of your monitor.
